Home to one of the most diverse natural landscapes in the mixed grasslands region, this remarkable park offers rolling coulees, dramatic hoodoos, and an incredible array of native prairie plants. From rare wildflowers to hardy grassland specialists, there’s always something in bloom and buzzing with life. Event Highlights:
- Weekend Hikes: On Friday afternoon, Saturday day, and Sunday morning, there will be guided field trips to explore the Writing-on-Stone’s unique terrain and diverse landscape! Join us as we journey through sprawling grasslands, rolling sage flats, culturally significant sandstone cliffs and hoodoo formations, and the riparian cottonwood stands bordering the Milk River.
- Saturday Evening Presentation: Join us at the Writing-on-Stone Visitor Center for an engaging evening presentation on biocrusts by a lichenologist Diane Haughland.
- Saturday Campfire Dinner: Come by for a casual dinner and snacks around the fire.
- Contribute to Native Plant Knowledge Bases: Support conservation and research efforts by documenting plant species, including lichens and mosses.
Getting Here: Writing-on-Stone is located approximately 650 km from Edmonton, 350 km from Calgary, 130 km from Lethbridge, and 40 km from the town of Milk River.
Accommodations: Group camping is available for up to 8 sites under the shade of the cottonwood trees. Sites will be assigned on a first-come, first-served basis, so reserve your spot early!
