April 17, 2024 – ANPC “Under Pressure: Threats to Alberta’s Native Plant Communities” Webinars

The Alberta Native Plant Council is hosting a new monthly lunchtime webinar mini-series, Under Pressure: Threats to Alberta’s Native Plant Communities. Alberta’s native plant communities face many threats, from invasive species, to habitat loss to climate change and more. This webinar mini-series will touch on some of these challenges and explore some of the innovative solutions and research aiming to address them.

The ANPC webinar mini-series Under Pressure: Threats to Alberta’s Native Plant Communities continues as Blake McNeill, co-founder of Alberta Native Plant Rescue, presents Forging Unexpected Alliances to Save Native Plants and inspires us to reassess some of our relationships with what might have been considered one-time adversaries and discover that we do share some common objectives. By merging our different skill sets, we can form powerful alliances to help save native plants in Alberta. Join us on Zoom on April 17, 2024 at 12 PM MST. Register HERE.

Native plant advocate Blake McNeill shares some of the innovative salvage projects the group has undertaken to rescue native flowers and grasses from roadways and development sites prior to demolition. There is no doubt that native plants in Alberta are under very severe threat, and some of the methods used to support Alberta’s native plants aren’t effective. We can no longer just think about saving native plants, we now must take a very active and hands-on role if we want to save them. The acceptance of this harsh reality allows us to reassess some of our relationships with what might have been considered one-time adversaries and discover that we do share some common objectives, and by merging our different skill sets, we can form powerful alliances to help preserve native plants in Alberta.
